Fri. Nov. 9th: Ecumenical Service for peace, martyrs, and closing of the SOA

On Friday, November 9, 2007, there will be an Ecumenical Service of Remembrance for the 18th anniversary of the assassination of the 6 Jesuit Priests and their co-workers in El Salvador.

You are invited to join in faith and solidarity to celebrate in their honor and in honor of the four American Churchwomen, Archbishop Romero and all others martyred for their witness & ministry for the cause of peace.

This celebration will be:

Friday, November 9th
7:30 pm
Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal R.C. Church, Wyandanch
(LIE Exit 51 South, rt on Straight Path, 4 lights from RR tracks, church on right)

At this gathering we will send forth, with our blessing, those who will travel to Ft. Benning, GA, for the vigil weekend of November 15-18 to give witness through peaceful protest and risk of being arrested for their efforts to close the School of the Americas.

Some of the congregations and organizations sponsoring include: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Ronkonkoma; Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Bellport; South Country Peace Group; Pax Christi, Long Island.

The service is part of a spiritual and moral path to healing injustices. Click here for some separate background on the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC), renamed as such in 2001, formerly known as the School for the Americas (SOA). (And, named by activists as “School of the Assassins.”)
