Kimberly’s morning after reflections:
PeaceSmiths last night was wonderful and heartening. Of course, things were not the same as when Susan was there, but we all pulled it off and made it happen. (Ie: No punch, but just enough apple juice and Martinelli’s. Forgot the candles, but had the bright colored string lights, and a poem about Susan’s candles.) There was a nice crowd, the place was full.
So thankful we had performers who kept their commitment of being booked by Susan, and we had institutional memory going with the kitchen, set-up tasks, etc. Some of the posts were done by the same people who always carry the show. Frank hung some interesting newspaper articles. Brian brought the best piece of literature for the table, and Patti Tana had a free chapbook to give away to anyone who asked. (Free poetry. Susan would love that!)
The video above includes announcements from the board, and the poetry segment. The short video below has one song from the Black & The Banned set. The song is “Last Church on the Left”, about Susan and the PeaceSmiths experience. When they played it last night, everyone was visibly moved.
Next months PeaceSmiths is December 7th, and will be dedicated to Susan Blake, with a long, long, open mic for just sharing and/or performing.
The Life Celebratory Event will be in January (not Dec.). Stay tuned for details.
Peace,
Kimberly
