LI Wins! update 3/08

Long Island Wins is working to promote practical solutions to immigration that help everyone in Long Island win. Progress is already being made. Below is an update on recent events and how YOU can get involved in the future.

Congratulations to the Long Island Immigrant Alliance (LIIA) for their huge victory in Suffolk County! Their hard work has paid off! This past week IR-1105 was tabled in committee. In celebration of this victory LIW is throwing a party to recognize the hard work of LIIA and LIW members and volunteers. More details on this event to come.

SAVE THIS DATE: On April 15, 2008 at Touro Law Center. LIW and The Drum Major Institute for Public Policy are holding an informational panel on recent events in Riverside, NJ. For more information about what happened in Riverside read www.nytimes.com/2007/09/26/nyregion/26riverside.html

Introducing NEW LIW Staff! Kirby Einhorn has just been hired as a full-time Communications Outreach Director! More staff means we as an organization are capable of achieving more.

Long Island Wins is tired of the hateful political rhetoric that offers nothing but fear within our communities. That is why LIW needs YOUR help! Here are some easy ways you can get involved NOW:

Host a house party! LIW will do all the planning with you! Your friends just show up for an informative and fun conversation! House parties are a great way to start talking to your friends, family and neighbors about how we can all help improve the immigration situation and propose practical solutions on Long Island.

Do you have personal experience working with, employing or being an immigrant in Long Island? Become a part of our speaker’s panel at our next event! Share your experience and stories with fellow Long Islanders.

Write to your local media! Get the discussions going! See the LTE section on our website or contact LIW directly for help putting your thoughts in writing.

Get your local group involved! LIW has message trainings which help re-frame the immigration discussion and show the realities of how immigration benefits us all. Have a LIW member come talk to your group or hold an event!

Become a LIW VOLUNTEER! We have a need and a task for all! Contribute in whatever way you can. You can sign up on our website www.longislandwins.com !

To get involved with any of the projects mentioned above or for more information please contact kirbyliw@gmail.com or call 516-304-5642. Long Island Wins is working to promote practical solutions to immigration. We hope you will get involved in any way you can. This is a critical issue for Long Islanders and crucial time for everyone to get involved.
