NEW YORKERS AGAINST THE DEATH PENALTY
Talk about a REAL scandal!! Our Senators AGAIN are attempting to reinstate the death penalty in New York! Two bills are set for a vote by the end of April. The Senate Codes Committee is moving S.4632 (Senator Volker’s Quick Fix – a general death penalty bill) and S.6414 (Senator Golden’s cop killer bill) on Tuesday 4/15. If their records are any indication (they’ve voting for the death penalty again and again, at the same time voting down legislation that would protect the innocent from wrongful conviction!), we know they’ll vote pro-death penalty again.
The Senate continues to ignore New York’s shameful problem of wrongful convictions although reinstating the death penalty remains at the top of its agenda. New York currently ranks third (after Texas and Illinois) in DNA exonerations due to wrongful convictions.
Contact your State Senator and tell her to VOTE NO ON THE DEATH PENALTY. Tell them to stop wasting your taxpayer dollars on an unnecessary, flawed, prejudicial system that does not deter crime, that is not universally supported by either victims family members or law enforcement!
