Journalist Amy Goodman co-founded “Democracy Now! The War and Peace Report” in 1996. The Pacifica radio program airs locally on WBAI 99.5 FM. Coverage of the peace and human rights movements and support of independent media are the hallmarks of her work. Goodman has received dozens of awards for her work, including the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and the George Polk Award. Professor and media critic Robert McChesney has said of Democracy Now! that it is “probably the most significant progressive news institution that has come around in some time.”
Goodman’s latest book, Standing up to the Madness: Ordinary Heroes in Extraordinary Times, details the capabilities of ordinary citizens to enact change. It was co-written with her brother, Mother Jones reporter David Goodman.
