In Far Rockaway Queens: Fatality as police question bicyclist

Note: In our hope for justice, we at onthewilderside feel that it is important to cover criminal justice incidents which result in significant harm or death for people dealing with law enforcement. It is unfortunate that there have been three such incidents in our area in the last week. Though, we feel each one of them is deserving of community attention.

(excerpt from) ABC News

…police say a 44-year-old bicyclist fatally shot himself when approached by police at the intersection of Nameoke Street and Redfern Avenue just before 4 a.m.

Police officers were attempting to question the man, who reportedly has prior arrests, when he apparently took his own life.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The ensuing police investigation closed off a large section of the entrance to the Far Rockaway Station…

List of recent incidents:

Suffolk Police taser a suspect suspected of robbery (man sent to hospital)
At the Nassau Jail, an inmate died, said to have committed suicide
-Now this incident: In Far Rockaway, Queens, NYC, a man said to have committed suicide when questioned by police.
