Shih, a Huntington resident, organized the event after reading the first-person reports from Haiti by physicians from Stanford University Hospital who were among the first to travel there and volunteer their services:

Their stories were so moving,. I wanted to do something and thought: I’m a musician, singer and songwriter. What I try to do with my music is to uplift, open hearts and minds, and build community. I wanted to raise some money; let’s see who will join me. I did an e-mail blast to friends and fans. Within 24 hours, I got an amazing response from 40 people. More than twenty of those are the artists who will perform at the event.

Shih said the key was getting the Cinema Arts Centre (CAC) as a venue. “Owners Vic Skolnick and Charlotte Sky always respond to humanitarian projects,” she said. The CAC, the region’s premier independent cinema, has a large-capacity movie theater where the artists will perform and a separate space for the family concert and nighttime dance.

  1. This is beautiful! I wish I could attend this

  2. Great coverage of the North Country Peace Group’s Seventh Anniversary
of the Iraq Invasion and occupation memorial Event. I was there and it was difficult yet inspiring.

Also The Benefit for Haiti in Huntington is an important event to help with Humanitarian aid Via donations to Doctors without Borders. We all should try to get there or support this fundraiser as best we can.

Thanks for your website and information hub. Keep up the good work
