Green Party Presidential Update 6/6/07 7p Babylon

Presidential Update

On Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 7pm, the Babylon Green Party will host a discussion of the 2008 Presidential Campaign with Kimberly Wilder, Green Party of New York State (GPNYS) Executive Committee representative for Long Island. This short talk will be followed by a showing of the film American Blackout featuring former Georgia congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. McKinney has been exploring the possibility of seeking the Green Party nomination to run for President. The new location for the gathering is at Pisces Cafe, 14A Railroad Avenue, Babylon, NY (631-321-1231) www.piscescafe.net (map) Come hungry!

Many have heard of the alleged voting irregularities that occurred during the presidential elections of 2000 and 2004. Until now, these incidents have gone under-reported and are commonly written-off as insignificant rumors or unintentional mishaps resulting from an overburdened election system.

American Blackout chronicles the recurring patterns of voter disenfranchisement from Florida 2000 to Ohio 2004 while following the story of Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. McKinney not only took an active role investigating these election debacles, but has found herself in the middle of her own after publicly questioning the Bush Administration about the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

In 2001, Kimberly Wilder co-founded the Babylon Green Party at her kitchen table. That year she ran for Suffolk County Legislature as part of a Green Party slate in Babylon. Wilder has served as a GPNYS State Committee member in Babylon since 2002, and previously served on the Executive Committee from 2002 to 2004. She has served on numerous state Green Party committees, and is currently the Press Secretary for the Green Party of Suffolk. Wilder was a delegate from Long Island to the 2004 Green Party Presidential convention. She has served on the Green Party of the United States (GPUS) Diversity Committee and as co-chair of its Dispute Resolution Committee. Wilder managed several campaigns for local Green party candidates, and acted as treasurer and press secretary for the 2006 Green Party campaign for Malachy McCourt for Governor. Her 2004 state senate run as a Green Party candidate drew the attention of all the major media in Long Island to the need to reform New York State election law.
