NEW YORKERS AGAINST THE DEATH PENALTY
http://www.nyadp.org

New Yorkers Against the Death Penalty has brought Jeffrey Deskovic, a young New Yorker who spent almost 20 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit, to speak in many different locations across the state.

Finally, Newsday and The Times are reporting the results of a review of his case, what DA DiFiore calls an “Absolute tragedy and a miscarriage of justice.” The article is included below.

Jeffrey is now an eloquent speaker who has made it his mission to speak out against the death penalty in New York. If you have a club, social services group, faith/ethics group, school, or library to which you belong, NYADP would be happy to arrange a speaking engagement. Playing Down DNA Evidence Contributed to Wrongful Conviction, Review Finds
By FERNANDA SANTOS

WHITE PLAINS July 2 — An independent review of the criminal case mounted against Jeffrey Deskovic, who spent half his life in prison for a rape and murder he did not commit, found that a series of investigative and prosecutorial missteps led to his wrongful conviction, including a deliberate attempt to play down the DNA evidence that led to his
exoneration in September.

The review, commissioned by the Westchester County district attorney and released on Monday, did not assign blame individually to any of the police officers, prosecutors or defense lawyers who worked on the case, but it offered pointed criticism of their conduct in and out of court.
