KENNETH FOSTER UPDATE/ URGENT ACTION
We only have a few hours left, but we have hope!
The Board of Pardon and paroles postponed making a decision on whether or not
to grant Kenneth clemency until today.
While we don’t want to read too much into this decision (it could be that they are just clogged up with the number of people they are killing this week!), it is noteworthy that the head of the pardon review board a few days ago asked for a meeting with Kenneth’s lawyer and several family members. They met and discussed Kenneth’s case and asked many questions about Kenneth.
It is obvious that the pressure is having an effect. So many faxes and emails have been received that it is clogging the system in Texas! Jimmy Carter and Desmond Tutu and 13 members of Texas legislators are urging Gov. Rick Perry to grant clemency.
Yesterday, rallies and press conferences were held in New York, Washington DC,
California and Chicago.
In a few short hours we will get the news on the board’s decision. In the meantime, keep up the solidarity, keep up the phoning and faxing (see info at the end of this email for phone number and faxes.
Kenneth and his family send messages of thanks and of love. They encourage activists to keep up the fight.
As most of you know, Kenneth is the co-founder of a group called the DRIVE Movement, which fights for better conditions on Texas death row and to end the death penalty.
Kenneth has been on a hunger strike for the past week. He is refusing to take part in any of the ritual aspects of his killing. If it comes to that, he will refuse a last meal and refuse to walk to the gurney.
Kenneth’s family are visiting with Kenneth today, and there is a demonstration
to start in Huntsville TX, outside of death row today at 3pm.
This is our last chance…
CALL AND FAX RICK PERRY AND THE BOARD OF PARDONS AND PAROLES
The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles will make a decision on Wednesday whether to recommend clemency for Kenneth. For Gov. Rick Perry to consider clemency for Kenneth, five of the seven members of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles have to recommend clemency. Call the Board of Pardons and Paroles and Gov. Rick Perry and urge them to grant clemency to Kenneth Foster Let’s keep up the pressure!
In solidarity,
Colleen
