LIPA Breaks Wind

LIPA chief kills wind farm project

Long Island Power Authority Chairman Kevin Law Wednesday said he will “terminate” a controversial project to install 40 wind turbines off the coast of Jones Beach, dealing a fatal blow to a plan alternately
portrayed as an environmental necessity and an economic boondoggle. The complete article can be viewed at:
http://www.newsday.com/business/ny-bzwind0824,0,7647935.story?coll=ny_home_rail_headlines

The Newsday article misquotes the Dowling Study which showed that the Florida Light and Power financing scheme was out of whack, but that it could be built cost effectively with municipal financing.

The wealthy beachfront property owners (just like in Massachusetts) get to keep their pristine view in the short-term. The windmills would have been a step toward fighting the global warming which will flood their property in the long-tem.  And the res of us will end up footing the bill for their flood insurance.
