EDITORIAL: Confusion wins in Democratic vote
January 15, 2008
excerpt

For what it was worth, Hillary Clinton in absentia won Tuesday’s Michigan Democratic presidential primary, although “uncommitted” ran remarkably well against the New York senator and former first lady.

This was hardly the resounding triumph envisioned by Gov. Jennifer Granholm, U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow and other leading Michigan Democrats when they endorsed Clinton…

It’s hard to read too much into the numbers from a non-contest. But candidate Clinton has to worry about results showing more than two-thirds of black voters preferred “uncommitted.” If she becomes the nominee, she will need to energize that part of the Democratic base to carry Michigan.

One Response

  1. Edwards and Obama told their supporters to vote “uncommitted.” None of the three physically campaigned in the state. Kucinich got 4%. Can we now see some commentary on the Green Party, specifically, was I the only one who felt the ‘forum’ passed off as a debate was disappointing?
