Joye Brown: Reviving LILCO Will Cost More

Newsday’s Joye Brown rightfully argues against the re-privatization of LIPA.

Trump on the Ocean is Ended!!!

For all the tragedy Hurricane Sandy caused in so many people’s lives, it did bring the NY State Parks Department and — even more amazingly — Donald Trump to their senses.

Yoko Ono gets serious (and silly) about fracking

Fracking stuff: (See video of Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, and Jimmy Fallon singing about fracking at the readmore…) Do you know what fracking is? It is a method of pumping water and chemicals underground, and then drilling horizontally in shale formations for natural gas. Fracking has been linked to earthquakes happening in areas near to, [...]

NY Governor gives State of the State: The People and Occupy gather elsewhere…

If you are interesting in coverage on conservative, old school, Democrat politician Governor Andrew Cuomo has to say, you can find good coverage of his State of the State speech here: www.capitaltonight.com If you want to see what the grassroots and occupiers think, here are excerpts from an article at The Times Union: (excerpt from) [...]

NY’s Tea Party Guv Gives 1% a Tax Cut

IW: I figured it was the media swallowing NY Guv Cuomo’s PR wholesale when they were reporting he was hiking taxes on the wealthy.  Cuomo got elected with contributions from the Koch Bros.  Cuomo stated before taking office that the rich are taxed too much already.  Cuomo refused to ever discuss repealing the rebate of the stock transfer [...]

Green Party of New York Denounces DEC Report, Calls for Ban on Hydrofracking

The Green Party of New York State is outraged in the latest DEC release on hydrofracking for natural gas and calls for a total ban on the practice. DEC’s report makes it clear that the state’s primary focus is clearing the way for the petro-chemical industry to reap enormous profits, cloaked in the language of [...]

Palin, Nader, & Augustus Agree on “Corporate Socialism” | Peace Couple

from Palin, Nader, & Augustus Agree on “Corporate Socialism” | Peace Couple. Duke Augustus was pleasantly surprised last night to hear former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin describe the US economy as “Corporate Socialism.”  This a a term that the Duke has been using for years to describe the US economy.  And a term that a quick [...]

The #1 Scariest Governor: Bringing a Radical Right-Wing Agenda To a State Near You

IW: Anyone willing to chip in for the “Don’t blame me , I voted Green Party” bumper stickers. 1. Andrew Cuomo, New York. I know, I know, he just passed marriage equality, right? Well, hes taking a bit too much credit for that, since the Republican-dominated state legislature wound up bringing up and passing the bill [...]

Activists Frack Themselves

During last year’s election, anti-fracking activists wasted time protesting Andrew Cuomo.  He could care less.  All he cared about was money and votes, and they did not get in the way of either.  Fracking activists ignored calls to raise funds for and get votes for fracking-ban governor candidates like the Green Party’s Howie Hawkins.  Now [...]

NYS had Same-Sex Marriage since 2002

We have not had same-sex weddings because of the cowardice of Spitzer, Paterson and Cuomo. The New York State constitution was changed to be gender neutral in 2002.  At that point, marriage was no longer dependent on the gender of the participants. No State law, including domestic relations law required the parties to be married to be [...]

NYCLU & Community Advocates Demand Gov. Cuomo Withdraw from Unjust Deportation Program

The New York Civil Liberties Union today joined immigrants’ rights and civil rights advocates at a rally at Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Manhattan office to urge the governor to withdraw New York from Secure Communities (S-Comm), a federal program that threatens civil rights and weakens public safety by targeting immigrant residents for detention and deportation. “Governor Cuomo should demonstrate [...]

Nader: NY Governor Andrew Cuomo Taking Progressives for Granted

But there is a more blatant misfocus by Cuomo. It is his fear of Wall Street whose crooks, speculators and self-enrichment pros collapsed the economy, looting or draining savings and pensions in 2008-2009 leading to much unemployment and many closed businesses that, through the loss of tax revenue, expanded the state deficit. He refuses even [...]

$16 Billion under Cuomo’s Couch Cushions (via Sherry Talks Back)

In addition to that fund, according to the Green Party candidate who ran against Cuomo, Howie Hawkins, if New York returned to the tax rates it had when the rebate was created, 95% of state residents would get a tax cut, yet tax revenue would increase by $8 billion a year. In other words, there [...]

Gov Cuomo to NY Poor and Middle Class: Drop Dead | Mother Jones

In a deal this past weekend, the governor and legislative leaders agreed upon a $132.5 million budget that cuts state spending by 2 percent, largely on the backs of the poor and the sick, women, children, the elderly, and other beneficiaries of state services. It offers next to nothing to the struggling middle class. But [...]
